The Metro Academies Initiative targets low-income, first-generation, historically underrepresented students. Many of our students enter college needing remediation in English and math. The majority of our students attended high school in the Bay Area. They attend college full-time, have committed to participating in the Metro program, and are committed to learning about social justice issues and giving back to their communities.
Compared to all first-time freshmen at SF State, Metro students enter college needing remediation at a higher percentage, are more likely to be low income, first-generation college-going, and/or underrepresented.
Of all Metro Health students at City College, seven out of ten are low-income, eight out of ten require remediation, and at least seven out of ten are underrepresented.
